The Kenya Livestock Breeders Organization (KLBO) is an independent farmers body formed to coordinate and promote livestock breeding and improvement. It is the only national body dealing with livestock registration and milk recording in Kenya.

Formed under the auspices of the Agricultural Society of Kenya, KLBO is headed by the committee who are elected members of the wider livestock breeders in Kenya dedicated to working for the interests of livestock breeders across the country, whatever breed they may happen to represent. Three Main functions of the KLBO

1. Livestock Registration.

Livestock registration through the Kenya Stud Book and maintenance of a central database for all registered stock.

Through registration the scheme also runs an upgrading scheme, which contributes to value addition.

2. Performance recording

The data collected on production becomes an important basis for selection on-farm

At the national level the data is important for sire evaluation through progeny testing and in contract mating for acquisition of outstanding sires. Hence the data is availed to the Central Artificial Insemination Station and the Livestock Recording Center.

3. Extension Services

With the scaling down of the extension services previously offered by the government and quasi-governmental organization the KLBO has stepped in to empower farmers with the necessary skills for livestock husbandry.
